With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of our beloved Muhip Goktepe on May 7, 2025.
Muhip was born in Turkey and later made his way to the United States, where he found home and purpose in Tarpon Springs, Florida. A skilled and dedicated Sponge Diver, Muhip embraced the sea as both his livelihood and his sanctuary. He built a life filled with love and adventure, forging bonds with those who knew and cherished him.
He was a devoted husband to Maria Goktepe, a loving father to Efe Goktepe, and a guiding presence as “Dad” to Andy, Yannis, and Tiffany. His love extended beyond generations as a proud Grandpa and “Pa” to their children. Muhip also has many family members and friends in the United States, his native Turkey, and abroad whom he loved very much. To his family and friends, Muhip was a beacon of strength, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.
He found solace in the Gulf of Mexico, navigating its waters with the same courage and determination that defined his life. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, his authenticity, and the way he offered comfort like a safe harbor during life’s storms.
Muhip leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared.
A celebration of Muhip’s life will be held at Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs on May 17, 2025 from 2pm-4pm, followed by a procession to the Sponge Docks for him to “check the boat”, as he so often did, one last time before he embarks on his final voyage.
