Patricia (fondly known as Pat, Patsy, Granny, American Grandma and Princess Pat) was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her father was from Ireland and her mother from Nova Scotia. She grew up in a large family of five brothers and three sisters. She left home after graduating high school to become a flight attendant for Allegheny Airlines in Newark, New Jersey. There she met Ed, who also worked for Allegheny, and they were married on August 10, 1963 (58 years ago). Their airline friends were their extended family and together they loved to travel and cruise to many places that included Ireland, Italy, Spain, England, Hawaii, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Pat and Ed raised their three children in Maplewood, New Jersey and later moved to Convent Station, New Jersey in 1985. In the early years, Pat was a homemaker. She was a perfectionist with many hobbies that included cooking, sewing, knitting and interior design. She was always learning and trying new things. Her children had beautiful, handmade costumes and Easter Sunday outfits (dress, coat and matching hat). Her homes had lovely drapes and pillows that she made herself. She learned how to make German food (Sauerbraten was a family favorite)! After the children were older, she kept up her hobbies and also started working at Abraham and Straus in accounts receivable and loss prevention; a job she had for fourteen years.
In 1994 they retired and moved to Trinity, Florida. Pat had a busy social life with many friends in Florida and was active in the community with the Red Hat Society and volunteering at Morton Plant Mease Hospital. She enjoyed parties, picnics, going out to dinner and trips to the beach with her airline and neighborhood friends. She also liked relaxing by watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune in the evenings with her cup of tea. Shortly thereafter, Pat said her “retirement package” arrived, which was her granddaughter, Jessica who was 4 years old at the time. Instead of retiring, she devoted her life to raising her “4th child” and she did an amazing job!
Pat was very caring and a big help with all her grandchildren. She spent summers with them in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Spring Breaks in Hilton Head, and Holidays in New Jersey and Chicago. She was a fun lady and truly the life of the party. She would always make sure you had a smile on your face and tasty food in your belly. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. People got a kick out of her Brooklyn accent (she was always a Brooklyn gal at heart)! She was easy to get to know and very engaging. She was special because she had the gift of connecting with people.
Pat is predeceased by her parents, Anne and Thomas Burke; her daughter, Donna Belcher; her granddaughter, Jennifer Belcher; and her brothers, Kevin Burke and Thomas Burke.
Pat is survived by her husband, Edward R. Hardina, Jr.; her son, Edward R. Hardina (Anne); her daughter, Patricia A. Hardina (Patrick Wells); her grandchildren, Jessica Bowen (Michael), Timothy Hardina, Brendan Hardina, Nathaniel Wells and Joshua Wells; her siblings, Raymond Burke (Loris Blanford), Ronald Burke (Christine Bonevich), Kathleen Flyg (Bill), Kenneth Burke (Patricia), Barbara Hopkins (Timothy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send donations in Pat’s memory to the Garden State Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group by check to: Treasurer GSPFSG, 672 Palisades Avenue Unit 2A, Cliffside Park, NJ 07010 or thru PayPal’s Gifting Fund and further selecting the Garden State Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group.

My deepest sympathies at the loss of Pat. I was her physical therapist but she became a close friend thru all of our exercise sessions. One of my favorites for sure. My prayers go out to all of her family and especially her dear husband Ed.

I am so saddened by Pat’s Passing. I have only known Pat for the past 8 months but quickly grew very fond of both her and Ed. I could see what a remarkable and strong woman she was. She shared many wonderful stories of her devoted family and life long friends and I will truly miss our chats. I may have been brought in to help Pat but I thought of Pat more as a friend. My condolences to Ed and her family. RIP my dear Pat. Forever in my heart.
