Peter Francis Nee, originally of South Boston and later Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully at home in Newport Richey, FL, on July 23. Peter, also known as “Frankie,” by close family and friends, is survived by his loving wife Joan (Sweinimer) Nee, originally of Marshfield.
Peter is also survived by his loving sons, Michael J. Nee of Dorchester, Martin A. Nee of Cohasset, Stephen J. Nee of Kingston, and Daniel K. Nee of Sagamore, and his loving grandchildren Martin, Ashley, Sabrina, Liam, Gunnar, Lisel, and great granddaughter Molly, as well his many dear nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his oldest son Francis L. Nee of Hanover, his granddaughter April Nee of York, Maine, and his former wife Arlene F. Nee originally of South Boston.
Born and raised in South Boston, Peter served in the United States Navy, as an aerial gunner stationed at Weymouth Naval Air Station in Massachusetts during the Korean War. After his service to the country, he became a firefighter on the Logan Airport Fire & Rescue team and later joined the Boston Fire Department which he proudly served for the next 34 years as a first responder and later as an arson investigator. After his retirement in the mid-1980s, Peter enjoyed semi-retirement as a groundskeeper at Green Harbor Golf Club in Marshfield. Through Pete’s passion for a good golf match and his ability to spin a tale, he was blessed with many close friends whose relationships he valued deeply.
In 2002, Peter and Joan moved from Marshfield to Newport Richey, Florida, where they cherished the last 20 years surrounded by the love of Joan’s daughter Michelle Spinney, her husband Mike, and their children Cameron, Emma, and Hannah.
A family celebration of life service for Peter in the Boston area will be announced.
