Raymond Alan Evans, born August 5th, 1948 in Bloomington, Indiana to late Raymond and Mildred Maxine Evans. He is survived by his wife Jean of 31 years, his daughter Sabrina Kirk (Glen), sons, Thomas Evans (Angie), Jared Viens (Dana), and Daryl Viens (Shannon). He has 8 grandchildren and 2 brothers Dan and Rick Evans of Indianapolis and Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Denise Evans Griffin.

Raymond, aka “Alan” decided to quit school in the 7th grade and begin his journey at the early age of 14 in the roofing industry, with a friend. He came to love the trade. He traveled the U.S, mastering the commercial roofing industry. He worked as a roofer himself, to leading large commercial teams. He was an expert in the trade and worked all the way up till he passed. Although he loved his career, Raymond wanted to continue his education, and went back to pursue his GED in 1984. His son Thomas was in 4th grade at the time, and they would walk to school together.

He met his wife Jean at her restaurant, “The Red Barron” when Raymond took on a roofing project there. The rest is history. When Raymond was not working, he loved to golf with his wife, and watch Western movies. Some of his favorites included Hop-A-Long Cassidy, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, etc. He enjoyed learning about History, was a Trivia buff, and he was a very passionate and excellent cook. Any opportunity he had to cook for others and his family he would take. He was never shy about sharing his recipes and cooking tips.

He loved his family, “totally and unconditionally”. He was known by his grandchildren as “Grandpa Raymond”, “Papaw Raymond” and “Pap-Pap”. His family knew Raymond to be strong, giving, candid and never to hold anything back. You always knew what was on his mind and where he stood. One thing his family would say is that he is a clean freak, and he would be seen re-arranging his home often. It was not uncommon to walk in and visit, and the house would look totally different. He had some favorite sayings. One that sticks out in the minds of family and friends was, “A day late and dollar short.”

Throughout Raymond's life he grew personally, professionally, and spiritually. Faith was everything to him as he became a Christian and taught Sunday school. He would share with others, that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. His family and friends have lost a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. But, most of all, heaven has gained an angel to look upon us all.
