Rebecca Jean Kovar

February 14, 1948~July 25, 2021

Rebecca (Burns) Kovar of Hudson, Florida, died peacefully on July 25, 2021 with family by her side. Her wit, joy, thoughtfulness, and loving personality will be missed by many.

Becky was born a valentine baby (02/14/1948) to L. Murray Burns and Twila Kennedy Burns. She grew up in North Apollo, PA, and was a 1966 Apollo High School and a 1970 Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate. Becky’s hands were rarely idle. She excelled at crafting – including card and jewelry making, crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching. She loved antique store browsing, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Nascar and Pittsburgh Steeler fan and loved all animals.

Becky’s career included being a Homemaker’s supervisor, where she assessed clients’ needs and assigned personnel to meet those needs; owning an antique business; and being organist, treasurer, and elder for the First Presbyterian Church of New Port Richey. Prior to moving to Florida, she was very involved with the First Presbyterian Church of Vandergrift, PA. Her medical insurance experience included working on client needs for Aetna and being a manager for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s medical assistance programs.

She is survived in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Leonard Kovar. She is also survived by daughters, Erin Gump (Jay, Waynesburg, PA) and Julie Kovar (Hudson, FL); grandchildren, Ashley Arbogast, Anna Gump, Sarah Gump, and Madison Guptail; four sisters, Kathy Burns (Nashville, TN), Nancy Kitko (Ray, Oklahoma City, OK), Sherry Jones (Pittsburgh, PA), and Brenda Fontaine (Raleigh, Perrysburg, OH); her college roommate and best friend, Cary Ferrence; and by her fur-babies, Delilah, Piper, and Peanut. She is preceded in death by her parents, Murray and Twila Burns; brother-in-laws, John Kovar, and Morgan Jones; and by her beloved fur-baby, Hudson.

There will be a one-day viewing and service in Hudson, FL, at Dobies Funeral Home. A second viewing and memorial service will be held at the Dunmire-Kerr Funeral Home in Vandergrift, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to any of these Florida institutions: Davita Bayonet Point Hudson Kidney Center, New Port Richey HDH (Hospice House), or Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs.

To Leonard and all of Becky’s family: we are saddened to learn of Becky’s passing. It seems like such a short time ago all five of the Burns kids were sitting side by side in the front brow at Vandergrift Presbyterian. Then the ball games, getting married and moving away!! Hard to imagine all those years in a blink of an eye. We send our love and our sympathy to you all.
