Roberta Josephine Costa, née Soares, 84, of Bayonet Point, Fl., died Monday, October 25, 2021. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend with a kind heart and uncommon generosity. Roberta was born in Fairhaven, Ma., on March 26, 1937, to Joseph Soares and Anita Soares, née Fredette. She was the oldest of eight children, with four brothers and three sisters, and was a natural caregiver. A precocious student and avid reader, Roberta was a Girl Scout and excelled in athletics and academics. While attending Fairhaven High School, she met the love of her life, Milton Costa. In 1955, she graduated, and they married on June 30, 1956. The newlyweds moved to Boston, and in 1957 Roberta gave birth to the first of their four sons, welcoming their second son a year later. The young family relocated to Holbrook, Ma., in 1962, where Roberta raised her children, cared for extended family, and remained active in her community and career. Her third son was born in 1969, and the family moved to Abington, Ma., in 1974, where she gave birth to her fourth son in 1976. An accomplished homemaker, her brownies were legendary, her home was always immaculate, and guests were always welcome. In 1990, she moved with Milton and her youngest to Bayonet Point, Fl. She worked in the Pasco County Library System for two decades until her retirement. She loved her job and the friends she made. In 2000, she survived breast cancer but continued to do the things she loved. As an anglophile, she relished her multiple trips to England and celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary on an Alaskan cruise. After Milton’s death in 2013, she continued to live independently until recently. Roberta was strong, empathetic, humble, and loved by all who were lucky to have known her. She is survived by her sons, David (Tracy) Costa, Richard Costa, Michael (Diana) Costa, Jason (Emily) Costa; grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Cameron, Miranda, Michael, Gabriel, Lily, Luke, and Liam; siblings Sylvia Parr, Jeanne Zawrotuk, Ernest Soares, and Maureen Cordeira; and many nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends. Visitation will be held at Dobies Funeral Home – Hudson Chapel on Saturday, November 6, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Hudson at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at noon at CARES Rao Musunuru MD Enrichment Center, Suite 4, 12417 Clocktower Parkway, Hudson, FL 34667.
