February 09, 1936~October 30, 2021

Samuel Osterberg, age 85, on October 30, 2021, slipped away quietly surrounded by loving nurses and caregivers at his nursing home in New Port Richey, Florida. Sam was born February 9, 1936 in Boston MA, and grew up and graduated high school in Riverside RI. He served honorably in the US Coast Guard for four years after high school, and always embodied the Guard’s motto of Semper Paratus. He later attended school for drafting and mechanical drawing, and spent time living in Arlington, Sharon, Foxborough, Newton, and Stoneham MA. Sam was a member of Boston Teamsters Local 25 for over thirty years until he retired in 1993 and relocated to Florida. After suffering a major stroke in 2006, which nearly took his life, Sam seized every opportunity to live on the bright side of life and quickly took on the role of ‘Mayor of E Wing’ at his skilled nursing facility.

Sam leaves behind his brother, Richard Osterberg (and spouse Linda) of Newton MA with whom he lived in Newton for over fifteen years; eight nieces and nephews including Mark DeVelis of Hubertus WI, Paul DeVelis of Burlington MA, and Glenn DeVelis (and spouse Jen) of Methuen MA; Rick Osterberg (and spouse Jessica Stokes) of Somerville MA, Erich Osterberg (and spouse Laura Greer) of Hanover NH, and Joshua Osterberg (and spouse Jocelyn Romano) of Beaufort NC; Christopher Osterberg Jr. (and spouse Mary) of Harrisonville MO, and Trina (Osterberg) Maciejewski (and spouse Christopher) of Belton MO; as well as seven grandnephews and five grandnieces.

Sam was predeceased by his parents Samuel O. Osterberg and (Mary) Florence (Mohan) Osterberg of New Port Richey FL; twin sister Miryam DeVelis and spouse Anthony DeVelis of Burlington MA; his brother Christopher Osterberg (surviving spouse Lorna) of Belton MO; and his nephew Anthony DeVelis, Jr. (surviving spouse Trisha) of Baldwinville MA.

Sam will be fondly remembered as a person who took grand advantage of his fifteen years of ‘extra innings’ and made his world a better place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam’s memory to
