Sidney Roland Higley born on December 7, 1940, in Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away on February 25, 2025, he was 84 years young.

Sid’s childhood years were spent in Woodbridge, NJ with his parents Margaret Gondola and Sidney Higley Sr. and his younger brother Thomas Higley.

He joined the United States Navy in 1960, Company 579, on the USS Rich #840, a Destroyer Escort and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He married Nancy Hines, the love of his life, on February 10, 1962, they spent 63 wonderful years together and raised 6 beautiful daughters.

He raised his family in his loving home in Metuchen, NJ from 1964 to 2002. Where he was proud and kept his yard green and pristine. He was always willing to help a neighbor with his expert home improvement skills. He enjoyed woodworking and helped all his sons-in-law with home projects. He enjoyed building birdhouses with his wife, who in turn painted them.  He also spent many long hours doing research on his genealogy.

He worked for Engelhard Corporation in Carteret, New Jersey for 43 years before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida.

Survived by wife, Nancy Higley, daughters, Robin “Robbie” Rizzolo, Ronna “RJ” Halsey, Sandra “Sam” Bernelle, Stacey “Stosh” Taylor, Linnette “Nettie” Higley and Ginnette “Gin” Higley. Sons-in-law, Kevin Halsey, Bob Bernelle, Colin Taylor and Adam Henry, and his 10 charming grandchildren and 4 delightful great-grandchildren.

Waiting with open arms at the Gates of Heaven for him are his parents, Sidney and Margaret Higley, brother, Tom Higley, son-in-law, John Rizzolo and many more family and friends.

We find comfort in knowing Sid shared his love and happiness with everyone he met and memories of him will be cherished forever.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at a later date, details will be announced soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am honored that I was able to spend some time with your family in your home in Metuchen when Stacey and I were in high school and after. It was always a warm, lively, happy and safe space. My heart goes out to you during this time of grief. May his memory always give you comfort and joy.
