Tommy R. Byrd died comfortably in his home on July 6th, 2024, in Hudson, Florida, after battling multiple health issues. He was 66 years old.
Born on November 16th, 1957, to his late parents; Erma and Dan Byrd. He attended Dunedin High School and graduated in 1974. After high school, Tommy joined the US Army and served in Italy. Once returning to the states, Tom joined the Army Reserve alongside his brother, Malcolm, for a year. Tom moved to New York in the late 80s and spent many years there with his late wife, Ceceila Byrd. There, he worked at Corning as a warehouse manager for ten years. Moving back home to Florida in the late 90s, Tommy opened Byrd’s Best Cleaning in September 2011, until retired in 2019.
In 2019, he met his wife, Diane, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in New Port Richey, FL. Both Diane and Tom were actively involved in their church community, serving as sacristans and eucharistic ministers. They also volunteered to deliver homebound meals for Pasco County Senior Services and with the Prayer and Crisis Referral Network (also known as “The Prayer Line”) answering calls to pray with those in need. Recently, he accepted the role of President in his residential community of Glenwood Village Condominium Association.
In his free time, Tommy enjoyed traveling, tinkering around his home, gathering with family and watching the Tampa Bay Rays as he was a huge baseball fan. Tommy was a caring, compassionate and supporting man with a contrite heart for his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Diane; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Erin and Patrick Duggan; his grandson, Petro Jorjakis Jr. “PJ”; his brothers, William Byrd; Malcolm Byrd and his wife, Lisa. His sisters, Amy Byrd, Doris Robinson and her husband Larry. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews whom he considered to be of his own.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; 8320 Old County Rd. 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653, on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:00 am. Following the Mass, he will be interred with a flag ceremony at the Florida National Cemetery; 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513 at 1:45 pm. All are invited to a Celebration of Tommy’s Life will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Hall on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 3 PM.

I am sorry. I wish I had known earlier. Tommy was an amazing person married to my cousin Ceil. He was such a big heart and helped me with my dad. My heart goes out to his family. I will miss such a gentle soul.
