Garrett, Veryl Jean
Passed away August 29, 2020.
Born in Mosinee, WI to Ethel and Earl Fischer, my Mom was the 7th of nine sisters and brothers. At age 96; despite having endured 16 sugeries, Veryl outlived all of her siblings and their spouses , my dad Frank (1920-1987) and my sister Sandy (1950-2007). Known and loved for her great laugh; especially at the poker table; there will be a noisy, loving reunion of all of the Fischer family descendants in Heaven.
Mom was often said to be “set in her waysâ€. Some may have even perceived her as rigid, demanding or critical. But while quick to speak her mind; her life is proof that her ways were the right ways. High morality, community volunteer, caring for others in sickness or health, keeping a fastidiously clean home, financially prudent and doing even the smallest things fairly, properly, and timely. Thank you, Mom, for always being a person who had the strength to make the right choice.
When she reminisced, she would begin “Way back when…â€. I recollect as Mom told it: The entire Fischer family boarded a train in 1941 and moved to Indiana in search of work in the steel mills. Mom cleaned several doctors’ homes, worked for the rationing board and Sears Roebuck. Veryl Fischer met Frank Lee Garrett and they married August of 1946. The Garretts moved from Gary, IN to Crown Point, IN in 1954 and raised two children Sandra Lee Garrett and Ronald Gene Garrett. Upon Dad’s retirement they moved to Lake Wales, FL in 1982. Married 41 years Frank succumbed to cancer in 1987. On her own Mom moved to Spring Hill, FL and finally to New Port Richey.
Veryl was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her son Ron Garrett, grandchildren Ryan Garrett, Tom Dance, Janeen Dance, and Serene Saverese; great-grandchildren Chelsea Bamburger and Nickolas Dance; and great-great-grandchildren Kayden and Jeremiah Bamburger; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration Of Veryl’s Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
