Wanda Swendsen

Wanda Swendsen

January 01, 1927~January 13, 2025

As we mourn the loss of Wanda Swendsen, we find comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in eternal life. Wanda passed away on January 13, 2025, after celebrating her 98th birthday on New Year’s Day. She was proud to be born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and later moved to Tarpon Springs, FL, with her parents after her father became the pastor at the Church of God.

Wanda soon met her husband, Herman, while singing in the church choir, and they quickly fell in love, marrying just four months later. In Tarpon Springs, they built a beautiful life and family, celebrating 69 years of marriage before Herman’s sudden passing in 2015. Together, they raised two sons and were actively involved in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, serving as the anchors of their family.

Wanda was beloved and well-known in her community and church. She played the piano and organ for more than 64 years at the Church of God in Tarpon Springs and enjoyed writing her own gospel music. She was a God-fearing woman who dedicated her life to her family and faith.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her son, Richard; her parents; and her three brothers.

She is survived by her son, Ronald; her grandchildren: Kim, Steve, and Alexis; her great-grandchildren: Steven and Sierra; and her great-great-grandchildren: Cadence, Kyla, Kendall, and Trenton.

Wanda’s warm and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. There will never be another “Nana” like her. We picture the joyful reunion of Wanda with “Pop” (Herman) and the rest of the family, knowing that one day we will all be together again in the presence of the Lord.
