January 09, 1946~October 20, 2024

William J. Higgins, Sr., 78, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Bill lost his loving wife Carol earlier this year. Bill is survived by his two children: Donna Bourget, husband Norman, and William J. Higgins Jr., wife Donna; his sister Mary Walsh; his four grandchildren, Allison, Sydney, Gregory, and Alexandra; sister-in-law Joan Clowes; and brother-in-law Douglas Clowes.

Bill was born on January 9, 1946, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Agnes and Charles J. Higgins Jr. and was a brother to the late Charles J. Higgins III. Bill attended Trade High School in Springfield and Buckingham Junior High School, where he met Carol, the love of his life when he was only 16. Over the next 60 years, Bill and Carol raised a strong and caring family, who learned about working hard and being there for their friends and family by the examples that Bill set. While living in Springfield, Bill worked for several businesses including; Stateline Potato Chips, Gasland Stations, and JJ Nissens Baking Company. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Labor Union, Local 404. During his career with the Teamsters, he served as a Trustee on the executive board. A lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge No. 61, Springfield MA, and a member of the American Legion, Post 79, New Port Richey FL.

Bill’s dream was always to own a bar. In 1994 Bill and Carol set off for a new adventure in Florida to purchase that bar. Ultimately, choosing the Four Winds Pub on Grand Blvd in New Port Richey allowed Bill to realize his dream. Bill loved “Happy Hour” at the Pub. He would often talk about the hot dogs he served. His Customers loved them. Customers would come in for drinks and dogs but leave as friends. Bill enjoyed taking his boat out with his friends and family going to the Sand Bar, having parties at his home, and going to the American Legion. He was always there to lend a helping hand or an idea of how to solve a problem.

His children thank Bill and Carol’s many friends for years of happiness and adventures. Bill will be missed dearly by everyone.
