It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Katilus announce his passing.
Born in Buffalo, NY to Victor and Gaetana, Bill was the oldest of 4 sons. As a young adult he enjoyed working on cars and playing hockey. After graduating high school, Bill joined the US Marine Corps and during his 4 year enlistment was stationed at the US Embassy as a guard in Saigon during the Vietnam War. Following his time as a Marine, Bill started his family in Buffalo before relocating to Hudson, Florida in 1987. He obtained his general contractor’s license and became an owner/operator of his own business where he transformed his client’s dream home visions into a reality, including building his own dream home. Bill mentored many, passing on his work ethic and expertise. Bill considered the folks at VFW 4412 his extended family, and met his partner in crime (Laura) there as well. After his ALS diagnosis in 2021, he fought like the warrior he was; he was determined to never surrender his independence to ALS. When asked how he was, he would pen “I’ve got Dobies (funeral home) on speed dial”. He kept busy with various projects and never missed an opportunity to play golf, go out on his boat, or watch his grandsons play sports. His million dollar SMILE and his quiet demeanor were his trademarks and his laugh was infectious.
Bill lost his battle with ALS peacefully in his sleep at home September 17, 2024 with his wife Laura, by his side.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Victor, mother Gaetana, brothers Vic and Jake, step-son Marc, and step-daughter Crystal.
He is survived by his wife Laura, brother Mark, children Leanne, Christopher, Ryan and Shannon (James), step-daughters Nicole (Kerry) and Laci (Mike), grandchildren Cody, Kaylyn, Gavin, Grant and unborn granddaughter, Maisie (expected February 2025), step-grandchildren Spencer, Logan, Lily, Paige, Peyton, Bretin, Alex, Cody, and Mason. Several nieces and nephews.
