Powers, William Thomas
William T. Powers, fondly known as Bill to friends and family and as Ginka his grandchildren, left us on Saturday, August 22, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
William was born in Newport, VT on April 25, 1944, the son of the late Gerald and Lucile (Gardner) Powers. He grew up in Easthampton, MA and graduated from Easthampton High School in 1963. Following high school, he entered the United States Air Force where he worked in the field of computer technology and was stationed in Watertown, NY. It was in Watertown that he met and in 1967 married his beloved wife, Terry Maiolo.
While raising his family in Easthampton, MA he was employed as a computer engineer with Digital Equipment Corporation. He was a very involved father who coached Softball for many years, chauffeured his kids on their paper routes on snowy days and sat through too many dance recitals to count.
William moved to Tarpon Springs, FL with his family in 1995. He enjoyed his Boston Sports, especially his beloved Red Sox and Patriots, NASCAR and was a fierce Fantasy Football competitor.
William is survived by his three daughters and their spouses Stacy and Lance Newalu, Kera and Brian Gore, Laura and Brian Pumo; his brother Keith Powers; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his older brothers Dean and Richard and their spouses.
William’s family is extremely grateful to his caregivers that went above and beyond to make sure he remained his best self until the very last days of his life.
In lieu of flowers, toast a beer and donations in his memory to Suncoast Hospice are welcome. https://suncoasthospice.org/
