Grothe, Gail J., 83, of New Port Richey, FL was called to Glory and ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 25, 2019. She was born Gail J. Steiner on April 15, 1936 in Port Washington, NY.
Gail, a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, sang in the choir along with her husband, Martin T. Grothe, for many years. She wed Martin (Ted) at Bethel Lutheran on April 20, 2002. They both attended Juniata College, in Huntingdon, PA, which is where they first met back in 1954.
Gail had a love for fashion and working with people. After completing retail school, she held various positions in the retail field. She worked main line NYC in stores such as Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Upon moving to PA, after being a wife and homemaker for 14 years, she was employed by Gimbles and Sterns department stores in the Personnel Department. She was also employed by Christianity Today magazine in Carol Stream, IL, while living in the Chicago area for almost 2 years prior to moving to Florida in September 1989. Gail retired from Neilsen Media Research in Dunedin, FL, after being a top-rated research interviewer for nearly 20 years. Gail thoroughly enjoyed her time there and formed many close and long-lasting friendships.
Gail was involved with and supported many Christian organizations including The Gideon's International, The Christian Academy (a private Christian school in Media, PA, where her daughter, Cheryl, attended and graduated high school), The Christian Women's Club of Florida, Word of Life Ministries and Youth for Christ. She was also the Sunday School Superintendent of Marcus Hook Baptist Church in Marcus Hook, PA. She served in various ministries at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL. She enjoyed playing the piano and was an excellent cook who loved to entertain. She loved to play and sing the old hymns of the faith. She was a wonderful wife, mother, friend and homemaker.
She was widowed twice and is preceded in death by Fred P. Lorance and Charles G. Fullerton. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mary Steiner.
She is survived by her husband Martin T. Grothe Jr. of New Port Richey, FL daughter Cheryl and husband Michael Wiederanders of Palm Harbor, FL, stepsons Martin Grothe III and his wife Lisa, David Grothe and his wife Jodi, Jonathan Grothe and his wife Jodi, stepdaughter Jamie Lehr, 8 step grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren, all from York, PA.
A celebration of Gail's life will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church 2580 Mt. Rose Ave, York, PA on Thursday September 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westchester Gardens and Sun Coast Hospice for their dedication for giving Gail comfort and care.
