Albert J Bashaw

April 05, 1946~February 27, 2018

Albert “Al” J. Bashaw, 71, of New Port Richey, FL, entered eternal life Tuesday, February 27, 2018 following a brief illness. Rev. Bashaw was born on April 5, 1946 in Springfield, VT. After graduating from Hinsdale High School (NH), he attended Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, FL, where he met his wife, Doris “Joann” Kelly. They married in 1966 at Prichard Assembly of God Church in Prichard, AL.
After graduating in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in ministry and education, Rev. Bashaw served as associate pastor of the Tarpon Springs Assembly of God Church. He later attended Florida State University, graduating in 1973 with a master’s degree in education leadership and adminstration. He served for 36 years in the Pasco County school system as teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Director of Student Services. In 2002-2003 he was nominated for Pasco County Administrator of the Year. Rev. Bashaw was preceded in passing by his parents, Albert V. and Gertrude M. (Burns) Bashaw; and brother, Gary L. Bashaw. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his daughter, Shellie (Jack) Woods; his son, Steven Bashaw; three grandchildren, Jack and Sasha Woods, and Alivia Christmas (Bashaw); his sisters, Linda (Richard) Bump and Judy (Thomas) Williams; his sister-in-law Olga Bashaw; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Rev. Bashaw was a man of deep faith who passionately loved Jesus as well as his family and friends. He often went to great lengths to help them and offer guidance. He would be touched to know he entered eternal life the same week as the late Rev. Billy Graham and would echo the pastor’s words: “Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.”
A celebration of life service will be held Monday, March 5 at 4:00 PM at the First Assembly of God Church in New Port Richey, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 6310 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey, FL 34653.

I've known Al for many years, he, Joann and Steven have become very good friends. My last conversation with him was going down memory lane about New England and the teaching field. Al will be missed by all and by Mike and me. He was truly loved.

I was fortunate to have worked with Al at Land O' Lakes High School for 12 years. He hired me as a teacher and coach and later as an assistant principal. he greatly valued his family and his church and he was always an excellent representative of the school district. He was a very good man and he will be missed.

So sorry to hear about the lost of another great cousin. Always loved going to visit Albert and Gert when we were kids. Johnny and Gary could always keep us entertained. and Albert and Gert always made sure we had to eat. Hugs and prayers go out to all our family. Families are forever. He is not that far away just beyond the moon and now he is strolling over Heaven with all his family and so happy to meet them all again. Love all of you.
