Alistair Neilson

June 18, 1934~June 01, 2018

Alistair Ross Neilson of Port Richey, Florida, passed away suddenly June 1, 2018.

Born in Kilmarnock, Scotland to Helen and Peter Neilson, who predeceased him, as well as his daughter Lorna.
Survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Phyllis (Grae), daughters Jill of London, England, Lu Aloupas of Virginia Beach, VA, Camille Engel (Kevin) of East Greenbush, NY; brother Iain (Jill) and sister Elanne Brice, all of Scotland.
Alistair cherished his grandchildren; Holly, Tiffany, Chelsea, Gabriel, Christopher, Abigail, Katharine, George and Evelyn, and the littlest love of his life, his great-granddaughter, Octavia.
Alistair was schooled in Edinburgh and went on to his profession as a commercial architect.
Moving to the United States in 1993, Alistair settled in Port Richey. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, an avid golfer, and reader of many books, (always more than one at a time); retired private pilot; lover of history and current events.
His most proud moment was in May of 2006, when he became a United States citizen.
Nothing made him happier than his marriage to Phyllis, working side by side with her at Greek Unique in Tampa; having his Dunkin Donuts each morning; watching Fox News at night; traveling and being a part of the grandchildren’s milestone events.
A true gentleman with old school charm and class.
Calling hours at Dobies Funeral Home on Congress Avenue, from 4-7pm, Monday June 4.
In lieu of any flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice; the Wounded Warrior Project, or Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Phyllis, Camie and Lu,

We were so saddened to learn of Alistair's passing. The words in your obituary truly captured his spirit, old world charm and joie de vivre…a true gentleman and scholar of human nature. We enjoyed the holidays and occasions we spent with him in Albany. His quiet wit and wisdom added so much to these treasured times. While his sudden loss is palpable, we hope you will take a measure of comfort in knowing he surely is in a special perch in heaven reserved exclusively for class acts. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
