Corella Varga

December 22, 1922~March 22, 2018

Corella Mae Pierson Varga passed away quietly at the Florida Hospital, North Pinellas Campus on March 22, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sarah Pierson; and sisters, Sylvia, Lucille and Marie.

Corella was born on December 22, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. She attended schools in Detroit and graduated and started working for the Revere Ware Company early in her career.

She met her future husband, Leslie Varga, on a blind date. Leslie also worked for the Revere Ware Company. They continued their courtship and married at Holy Cross Church in Detroit on March 31, 1951. Eventually, they moved to Allen Park, Michigan where, after a time, Corella changed employers and began to work for the Allen Park School System. At that time, she and Leslie met, acquired and maintained their friendships with people in the Detroit and Allen Park.

Upon retirement, Leslie and Corella moved south, settling in Holiday, Florida. There they enjoyed the pursuits of golf and general retirement activities.

Corella, being the active sort of individual she was, decided retirement was all well and good for a while, but she wanted to work again and found employment at a construction firm near her home.

They had many good years together in Florida until illness intervened for Leslie. He passed away March 31, 2005 after enjoying 54 years of marriage with Corella.

Corella relied on her friends, family and church after Leslie's passing. She had a wonderful community of friends whom she cared for and loved. I am sure they returned that sentiment to her also. She involved herself with her church, St. Vincent de Paul, and their ladies guild. Corella had a faithful group of friends that she lunched with, played many games of cards with and generally enjoyed their company on many fun excursions.

Corella went to her heavenly home on March 22, 2018 after 95 full and wonderful years on earth. She leaves to mourn her passing a special friend, Muriel; and a wonderful group of friends both in Detroit, Michigan and Holiday, Florida. She also leaves her great niece, Nancy Pasant; her great nephew, Terry Townsend; and Bay City relatives as well as her niece, Arlene of Northville, Michigan; and other nieces and nephews in the Detroit, Michigan area.

Corella loved life. Her laugh and good humor were infectious. You could tell her your troubles and she would listen and perhaps advise. She enjoyed a good joke, loved to play card games, enjoyed music, especially in her church, and was just a nice person. She was a beloved aunt and great friend. Corella will be missed by all, but I have faith that she is enjoying her family that has gone before her, reuniting with her husband, Leslie, and sharing confidences with her niece and great friend, Irene.

Peace be with you, Aunt Corella. Enjoy all that heaven has to offer. We love you and we know that you go to a better place.

The world lost a kind and gentle soul. Miss Corella was 95 and I am blessed to have had her in my life. Her wit and humor and sillyheart made her the beautiful woman she was. I know she’s in heaven sipping champagne with my Mom and Gram and Pappas. I love you and miss you lady!
