David Russell Gillis, 71, a longtime resident of Brockton, Massachusetts and a Florida resident since 1992, passed away from complications of dementia on July 28, 2025, in Hudson, Florida.
Born on June 25, 1954, in Brockton, Massachusetts, David was raised in the city he would call home for much of his life. He was educated in the Brockton Public Schools and later earned his GED while proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps. From 1975 to 1979, David served with distinction as a Corporal in the Marines, a period that shaped his enduring sense of discipline and commitment.
Following his military service, David built a successful career in the construction industry, eventually advancing to construction site superintendent, working on commercial building projects. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership on the job site, he eventually retired after many years of dedicated service to his profession.
David was deeply rooted in his community and faith. As a youth, he attended the Covenant Congregational Church in Brockton and remained connected to family and local traditions throughout his life. He was also a former member of the Vega Club in Brockton.
A devoted family man, David is survived by his beloved wife Lee (Hanson); his son David Jr.; daughter Stacey; brother Paul and wife Cheryl; Brother Stephen and wife Diane; grandson Tye; granddaughters Daphne and Jenelle; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his mother Jeanne, father Russell, and sister Joanne.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and military service, David will be remembered for his compassion and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, always ready with support or a kind word. An avid fan of the New England Patriots, he found joy in cheering on his team through every season.
A Funeral Service will be held to honor David’s life on August 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Dobies Funeral Home, 9944 Hudson Ave. Hudson, FL 34669. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
