March 25, 1958~July 10, 2021

David Thomas Muetzel, 63, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 10, 2021.

David was a beloved and fiercely devoted husband, father, uncle, brother, son, and the world’s greatest Papa.  Born in Cleveland, Ohio, David was happiest near the ocean with his family, which brought them to New Port Richey 22 years ago.  He spent his life in service of others.  He was a hard-working man and never hesitated in helping others.  David worked as a truck driver, and he spent many years driving over-the-road, seeing and appreciating the beauty of this country.  Throughout his career, he traveled through every state in the contiguous United States and into Canada.  In addition to raising his two children, he was a foster dad to many through the years.  David was dedicated to his family, loved being outdoors at the beach or on a boat, and knew how to fix everything.  He had the biggest heart and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor.  He illuminated the rooms he walked through, and his laughter filled the hearts of the people who loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, LaWanna; his son, Brandon; his daughter, Brittany, and her husband Sam; his grandson, Finley David, who adored his Papa; 15 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and a large extended family, all who loved him dearly.

Hearts are broken and he will be missed.

A celebration of David’s life and memory will be held for family and friends at Crescent Oaks Country Club (3300 Crescent Oaks Blvd, Tarpon Springs, FL 34688) on July 24, 2021, at 11:00am.

I was heartbroken to see this news so belatedly… let alone at ALL. You were such a dear, charming, witty, wonderful person AND friend. Even though we all go back to the ‘dark ages’ together, I have never had you, your brother Donnie, or the rest of your family far from my heart. I wish nothing but strength and love to you all.
