July 09, 1933~September 22, 2020

Edward T. Dunn, son of the late William Dunne and Violet Stevens Dunne passed away on September 22, 2020. He is survived by his loving daughter Deborah (Falco) as well as his granddaughter Stephanie (Falco-Larson), 2 great-grandchildren Everly and Rocco as well as his son-in-law Louis and Stephanie’s husband Brett.

Ed was born and raised in Greenpoint Brooklyn, New York. He fondly and frequently remembered the “Greenpoint days.” Edward served his country proudly during the Korean War. He functioned as a Staff Sergeant in various locations throughout the US and enjoyed reminiscing about his experiences. He often joked about a clerical error the Army made when preparing his enlistment and discharge papers leaving the “e” off his surname. He claimed, “If the Army would have wanted me to have an “E”, they would have assigned me one.” After his enlistment Ed found work with Phipps Houses, Inc. He retired from Phipps in 1996. He began his career with Phipps as a painter and worked his way through the ranks to become Superintendent of the Sunnyside Houses, a complex in Queens with over 300 families. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved to Suffolk County New York where they were both active in the local senior citizen club.

Ed is the embodiment of a “gentleman”. He seldom lost his temper or raised his voice and was respectful to all. He loved his family deeply, especially his wife Marge, who predeceased him by 1 month. Other family members who have predeceased him include his brothers James, John (Jack), and Bill as well as his sister Dorothy and his stepmother Rose. His brothers Gerry and Tom along with his sister Rosemary (Graffeo) and her husband Anthony will continue to cherish memories of the time they spent with him.

Ed enjoyed traveling, playing cards and board games. He was an avid reader especially of spy novels and books about military history. Ed was extremely interested in politics and although he was a devout Roman Catholic, he relished learning about other religions and beliefs. He enjoyed being with his friends in the Summertree community in Florida, where he and Marge settled after being “snow-birds” for many years. He also enjoyed the various activities Summertree offered such as shuffleboard, bocci and swimming.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, October 16th, 2020 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish located at 8014 State Road 52, Hudson, Florida at 11:00 AM. The mass will celebrate the lives of both Ed and his predeceased wife Mary. Internment for both Edward and Mary will follow at 1:30 PM at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boys Town. And as Ed would have wished for all – take time to enjoy yourselves and take care of yourselves. As he often said, “Those that are hungry should eat, those that are thirsty should drink and those that are tired should rest.”

Such a kind, thoughtful, beautiful sole. Ed was the text book definition of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and role model to all he encountered. We cherish our memories of all the fun times we had vacationing together though-out the years, especially the competitive games of SkipBoo with Matthew & Sarah. Ed dearly loved Newfoundland and it’s people. He will be sadly missed by all; especially his step mother-in-law, Esther. Sending condolences from his Newfoundland family, may he Rest In Peace.
