Eugene J. Holmes was born in Manhattan, New York. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to join his fellow Americans in World War II. Following 4 years in the war as a Sargent, he became a drill instructor at Paris Island, South Carolina. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he returned to New York and became an automobile salesman. Thanks to his hard work and determination, he became the dealer operator and owner of a Ford dealership in Queens, New York. Gene later expanded his auto business to include Buick and Mazda before retiring. He was also on the board of the New York Auto Dealers Association.

Gene and his bride Bee, raised 5 children. They have 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Gene was a devoted father and grandfather while being married for almost 66 years.

Gene was an avid golfer and club champion at North Hills in Manhasset, New York. He also won the club championship at Loxahatchee Club in Jupiter, FL and Cypress Run in Tarpon Springs, FL at the ripe age of 70.

He also spent many years supporting the game of golf as a club board member.

Unfortunately, we lost Gene at the age of 89 on Friday, July 13, 2018.
