I’ll always remember how Rick embraced our family. How he seemed to enjoy our crazy, loud, chaotic ways. Rick always had time to listen (genuinely) and was always respectful to others feelings. I will miss him but not forget him. I will keep my memories of him in my heart and ready to share at any time. 😢💔

Rick was also a long time board member of Ohio State Legal Services Association and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services, where I was the executive director and worked very closely with Rick. He took a great interest in the Athens office of SEOLS and helped in many ways, including representing low income clients. As a board member he brought good sense, commitment to the mission, a calm and steady voice, and an important perspective as relatively conservative but fully supportive of our work. He was able to disagree without being disagreeable and to help us understand how we were perceived by people we did not usually interact with much.
Rick’s help was of great value to me personally. He had keen insight into the Ohio State Bar Association and gave me critically important advice on how to develop a strong relationship with the OSBA. He also helped me understand and interact with the legal community in southeastern Ohio. And finally, Rick was a good and loyal friend. Like so many others, I feel a great sense of loss with Rick’s passing.

I am so saddened to receive this news today, as Rick is my cousin who I lost contact with as kids when our families all eventually moved away from NY. We had spent many family weekends at our Grandfather’s cottage on Lake Ontario and we were close cousins, probably because we were the closest in age. As an adult, I have tried many times over the years to locate all my cousins, and now that I have, I’m a week late. I’m so happy, but not surprised to see what an accomplished and fine man he was. My heart goes out to Cindy for the grief she must be feeling, as I, too have lost my companion. Hugs and prayers to the family, and especially Aunt Betty. ❣️

I am very sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. He was a compassionate man who cared deeply about his community. I had the privilege of working with Rick on a wide range of projects designed to help insure equal access to justice for our less fortunate neighbors.
