So many of us at Palm Harbor Middle School loved your dad. He made it easier to come to work. Good man! One thing that always put a smile on my face was his joke telling. They were the corniest jokes, and he’d walk away laughing harder than the people he told his joke to.

To all the family, May you find peace and comfort in knowing that your dad was loved by his parish family of St. Thomas Aquinas. We all knew him by his morning Mass petition for “all the holy souls in purgatory”, and sincerely prayed for that intention. May he be happy with the Lord – and his wife, too, and may your wonderful memories comfort all the family.

Today the world lost a real man of character. My heart goes out to the Tosh family. I have known him since 9th grade at Longfellow Junior High School where later he returned as it’s principal. The world is a little sadder today…

The world lost a real man of character today. I have known George since 9th grade at Longfellow Junior High School. My fondest memory of George is when I asked him to go to the Sadie Hawkins Dance with me that year. The painful look on his face and his furrowed brows made me immediately want to rescind my request. He said yes only because I caught him off guard and he had no good excuse. We have laughed about that many times over the years. May he rest in peace next to his beloved wife

We moved here a year and a half ago and had the pleasure of having George as a neighbor directly across the street, immediately We bonded over many things that we realized we had in common..he was like a father to me and I will always be grateful for the short time he was in my life. I feel like I lost a large part of me here in Florida and I can’t even begin to imagine what a loss this is for his family…a beautiful soul taken way too soon!! We love you George, you will forever be in our hearts..we will be sure to celebrate you every Christmas for your birthday! May you rest in peace. Love and miss you everyday❤️

Our family is so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Tosh. He was a favorite person to our entire family. I worked with him on many occasions at Tarpon Springs Elementary School to make things happen. He was very progressive and wanted to improve the school. We established the PTA organization, and I was the first President for the PTA in 1978. Our first project was to raise $21,000 to pay for the air conditioning equipment needed to air condition all the classrooms. We had many projects for raising the necessary funds with the most successful being the “Cool Walk” with the T-shirt slogan of “You Ring My Bell at Tarpon EL.” We turned the money over to Pinellas County School Board, but they were very slow in getting the school air conditioned. Mr. Tosh asked me to put pressure on the county to pay the PTA interest on the $21,000 they had been sitting on for almost a year. We finally prevailed and received our interest money which was then applied toward the project for buying air conditioning equipment needed to air condition the school cafeteria. This is only one example of how effective Mr. Tosh was in getting things done. Also, his loyal Secretary Freda Murray made many phone calls to anyone that Mr. Tosh thought could help in certain projects. What a difference Mr. Tosh made in Tarpon Springs Elementary School!

George, Denny Winterhalter and I were roommates at BGSU. Graduated together. We became connected and close friends. We never quite got over Denny passing on about 10 years later. We talked of him often. What great memories. George and I stayed in constant contact most all these years. Back and forth texting weekly for so many years. He visited us here in Ohio and I stayed with him in his home in New Port Richey. This news of George is absolutely shocking. Hard to believe he is gone. He was very smart and very spiritual. He and I debated, agreed, disagreed, stayed friends. That’s what friends do. My last visit staying with him in his home several years ago, George said, “have you ever been to Key West?” I hadn’t. He said, “lets go.” A few fun days there. What a drive down there and back. Memories. He never got over suddenly losing Diane. They were staying with her sister in Cleveland vacationing. George and I were at Put-N-Bay enjoying our get-together and Diane had stayed in Cleveland. The next day she had a stroke. George missed her terribly and talked of her often. They are now together. George was a remarkable person. He will be missed. My wife Karen and I send our deepest condolences to his family. Hi to Diane, and Denny, George.

Friends forever. John Stephens

My condolences to George’s family. George and my husband John Samu were good friends. We traded a lot of recipes and John and George loved to trade stories about the steel mill. He came to see John in hospice hours before John passed. He checked on me often. A great friend and neighbor.

My heartfelt sympathy to George’s family. I had the pleasure of working with him at Tarpon Springs Elementary as an assistant principal just before he retired. He was a great mentor, coach and friend. I learned so much from him. He had great character, faith and wisdom and that showed in his life. He will be missed but never forgotten.

It was an honor to teach at Tarpon El. with Mr. Tosh. He was a great person, administrator and family man. He often spoke of the pride he felt for his family. I also had the privilege of teaching George Jr. when he was in fifth grade.P

My heart is broken for all of us who knew and love George dearly. George and I grew vey close over the years and he was the most genuine and kind soul to me. One in a million I would always tell him. He truly treated me as a member of his family. I will always be grateful for him and it was a blessing to be a part of his life. This sudden loss is tragic for the ones left behind. I pray for a sense of peace knowing he is home and eternally filled with joy. My deepest sympathy for George’s children and granchildren all of which he adored with all his heart.

My prayers are with the family and friends of my dear friend, George. I was privileged to call him Bubby. He was a wisdom figure to me, as well as a lot of laughs. I miss him very much, but I take solace in knowing that he is with God and is reunited with his beloved wife, Dianne as well as his parents and grandparents that he often spoke of with honor and love.

Last week I came across a card that George Tosh wrote to me while teaching at Tarpon Springs Elementary. He wrote such a caring note thanking me for being a dedicated teacher.
Finding that note led me to look up his name and come to find out of his passing.
Mr. Tosh was a kind and thoughtful man who always made time to talk and share a laugh.
I am sad that he is no longer here, but as others have said- he is with his wife again and that is the blessing.
