George Ronald Wilcox, Jr. (Chip)
George Ronald Wilcox Jr. of Tarpon Springs passed away on July 30, 2026. Chip was born in Anona/Largo Florida to a pioneer Pinellas County family. He graduated from Largo High Class of 68 and then USF in English Education. He met Karen Trautman in high school and they married in 1975, spending many wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling the world with many friends and camping throughout the US.
He taught English and Literature at Tarpon Springs High School for 31 years. He was well known as the teacher that drove a 1957 maroon pickup truck to school for many years. In addition to his devotion to teaching English, he also encouraged his students to care about the local environment by organizing beach pick up litter days. Years later Chip was often seen riding his bike on the Pinellas trail picking up litter along the way.
He was an avid sailor spending many hours in his Pintail sailboat often with his black and white dog, Penguin. In the summers he spent time in North Carolina teaching sailing at kid’s camps.
Chip was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Karen Wilcox, and his parents George Ronald Wilcox and Jacqueline Wilcox. Chip will be deeply missed by his brother Richard Wilcox (Kathy), sister Carol Seiler (Henry), niece Kellyn Wilcox, nephew Charlie Seiler, and many close friends and cousins.
A private remembrance will occur sometime in the future.
