Glen John Auman Jr.

July 10, 1934~August 08, 2022

After being born in the Midwest and living most of his life in Freeport, IL, Glen moved to the Gulf Coast in July of 2020 with his wife, Linda, by his side so they could enjoy living close to their only daughter, Janet and her husband Doug Newby in New Port Richey, FL, as well as be near their two grandchildren, Zachary and Allison.

To highlight 88 years of living, Glen was a 1952 graduate of Freeport High School who cherished long-lasting friendships from those school days. He attended Highland College and Northern Illinois University earning his BS and MBA. He also served in the US Army for two years during the Korean War era. As a result, he will be laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery in the Sunshine State.

Glen was employed by Micro Switch where he met his wife. He also worked for Northwestern Mutual Insurance, Structo, Daily Design, Inc. and Sundstrand during his career course. He devoted his time to the American Boy Scouts for 45 years and was a dedicated and honorable Scout Master for Troop 4 where he taught “God, Family, Country.”

Glen enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife. They took several international tours together to experience life in other cultures. For decades, Glen and Linda also welcomed foreign travelers into their homes as they loved participating in a foreign exchange program, offering their guests a taste of the Midwest and building trustworthy relationships.

Glen also was an avid genealogist and spent decades researching and creating Family Tree record books for a variety of different families over the years. He and his wife also hosted Bible Studies and Prayer Meetings in their home for decades, living out Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Grandpa Glen loved his two grandchildren and was blessed to be a part of their lives, watching them grow into young adults. He prayed for his family daily, lived a life of service, practiced generosity and was kindhearted to all.

God bless my brother Glen who was my hero as a young girl. He always would take time to teach me in honorable living and help me in drawing and art. Because of him I was the first and only girl at Freeport High School that took drafting and Mechanical engineering classes receiving an A in each class. I love his live for Jesus and his family. God bless you Glen, I love you❤️

Such a joy to be included as one of Glen’s friends. Since Rich and Glen went to high school together and were both Bible living/loving men they had a life long friendship. We send prayers of comforting oil for all the family and rejoice that we will all be reunited.

We have fond memories of Glen. He and Linda were mighty prayer warriors and used their home in Freeport to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to all who came to visit be it prayer meetings, Bible studies, foreign exchange visitors, or gathering around the table to visit and enjoy Linda’s delicious pies. All looked forward to hearing about their traveling adventures, which were illustrated by Linda in her notebooks.

Glen also had a green thumb and a beautiful backyard garden that was adorned with Linda’s artwork.

Glen will be remembered as a humble, God-fearing man and an ambassador for Christ. It was an honor and blessing to have known him. Beautiful Are the Feet of Those Who Bring Good News—Romans 10:14-15

Praying the LORD’s peace and rest to be upon Linda, Doug, Janet, Zachary, and Allison during this time.

Kindhearted is an understatement. Glen had the gift of acceptance to all. We enjoyed getting to know him through Bible studies and many invitations to their home. His faith was a strong comfort that we won’t forget.
Love & Prayers to Linda, Janet, Doug, Zachary and Allison.

Tom and I extend our sincere sympathies to Glen’s wife, Linda and daughter, Janet and family.

His wit and smile just perked up the room when you were with him.

The love of his Savior, Jesus was stronger than steel and made an impression on those interacting with Glen.

We are glad to have been a part of his life and will hold fond memories of time spent with him.

God rest his soul.

Alice and I send you our condolences at your great loss. Glen was a sincere, gentle, encouraging Christian brother in Christ who clearly lived his faith. I remember visits to your home in Freeport and Glen’s sense of humor as we would talk and share. He was usually in his study but quickly joined the conversation and never tired of being a people person. Linda, may you and your family be comforted with the clear hope of eternal life with the Lord Jesus. God bless you. –Pastor and Alice Schwichtenberg (Pastor Switz) (Isaiah 41:10)

Thank you Glen for your service to our country and for helping to guide and mold young boys into men through Boy Scouts Of America. Linda and Janet, while I am sure I have only met Glen in person one time, I know how much he loved you both and how much you both love him. He enjoyed a life well lived, had many adventures, and most of all was a man of faith. May Glen Rest In Peace.

Dear Linda and family. He fought the good fight for all of his life. He was a Christian and also had so many health issues. He handled it with faith and love to all. I so appreciated his help with my genealogy
and also just being a quiet witness with his life. He is and was an example of humility and kindness. As you all know, he is with his Savior, and no more health issues.
We are so glad you are close to your family in Florida and that will be a blessing as well. May God continue to keep you in the palm of His hand.
We wish you all the very best and may good memories sustain you.

Brothers are someone special, and my brother was that special someone. I have many fond remembrances of him as a little girl growing up. Even though he was 7 years older than me, he was very willing to include me in many of the things he did. Riding in his car on a Sunday afternoon. Playing tennis with me. Enjoying ice cream together. He was patient, kind, funny and loving. He will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Linda for being a loving wife. You were perfect for him. Love you Janet and your family and pray God ministers great comfort to all of you at this time. We never say “good-by” just a “till-we-meet-again” and we will meet on the shores of heaven one day when we will be “Finally Home”.

Your husband, father and grandfather was a very special friend of ours. He and Linda often brought a meal to our house that we could enjoy together. We enjoyed watching the birds from our kitchen window. Glen was a wonderful Christian who put God first in his life. After God, came Linda and the rest of his family. We are happy that he got to enjoy some time in Florida with all of you. We will look forward to a reunion in Heaven.

Linda and Glen were instrumental in praying for us and (Linda as a master teacher) in mentoring me as a Christian art educator, both for which I am forever grateful. We know Glen is in the glorious presence of Our Lord and Savior with no more pain nor sorrow! Looking forward to that great Day also. May God richly bless you, Linda and family, in this new season ahead- Grace and Peace!

To Linda, Janet and family

Yesterday, I just learned of Glen’s passing when on a phone call from a cousin on my mother’s Beyer side of the family because of Aunt Leona [Hoch] Beyer’s passing earlier this week. Not being in touch for a while, I had no idea you weren’t living in Freeport, as well with Janet & Doug. I have a sister living in Florida and recall her mentioning New Port Richey from time to time when she lived near that area.

What I like about Glen is he was a gentle person, more on the quiet side. So, glad we have the consolation that we will see each other again as believers. Take care. God’s blessings over you all.
