Henry Travis Gardner, born January 3, 1970, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2026, leaving behind a silence that will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Travis is survived by his loving wife, Erica; his children, Savannah and Henry Beckett; his father, Danny Gardner; his mother, Alberta Harris (Dave); his siblings, Angie Gardner, Sera Oliver, Larry Gardner (Michelle), Christina Flores (Eddie), Nathan Gardner, and Rebecca Rinn (Gerry); his mother-in-law, Nina Stroade; his sister-in-law, Jami Finan (Sven); his brother-in-law, Matt Nartker (Jessica); as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever carry his memory with them. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Tom Nartker (Patty).
Travis was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend—a man who built his life around showing up for others. He lived a life of service in the truest sense of the word. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during the Gulf War, including deployment to Kuwait where he helped establish communication systems for Kurdish communities. He carried that same sense of duty and quiet strength into his lifelong career in law enforcement.
Following his military service, Travis attended the police academy and went on to serve with both the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department and the Tampa Police Department. He worked as a K-9 officer—twice—partnering with his loyal companions, K-9 Fox and K-9 Molly. He also served as a field training officer, mentoring others with patience, humor, and the kind of wisdom that can’t be taught in a classroom.
While his career was defined by service, his heart belonged to his family. Recently, Travis and his wife found their happy place in a cabin nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where time seemed to slow down and the best moments were the simplest ones—surrounded by family, friends, and the quiet beauty of the outdoors.
Travis had a passion for metal detecting that bordered on legendary. Whether on land or in the water, he never met a patch of ground he didn’t want to explore. His finds ranged from the ordinary to the truly remarkable—but the real treasure was the joy he brought to others. It wasn’t uncommon to see a trail of curious kids (and plenty of adults) following behind him, eager to see what “Trav” would uncover next.
If you ever needed to know anything about anything, Travis was your man. From cracking crab legs with ease to somehow being the one person who could put up a beach tent without a struggle, he always seemed to have the answer.
He also had a well-known appreciation for a good bourbon, best enjoyed with a story, a laugh, and the people he loved most.
Above all, Travis cherished his wife, Erica, and their children, Savannah and Henry Beckett. He was their biggest fan, faithfully spending weekends at cheer and gymnastics competitions and baseball games, beaming with pride at every accomplishment, big or small. His love for them was constant, steady, and unmistakable
Travis had a way about him—easygoing, genuine, and kind—that made people feel instantly at home. To meet him was to love him. In this life, you’re lucky if you have a Travis.
He leaves behind a family who is absolutely devastated by this loss, along with countless friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives are better because of him.
