November 14, 1942~November 25, 2022

Jane Quagliata Kelly, 80, of Trinity, Florida, passed away in the early hours of November 25th, 2022, after spending a wonderful Thanksgiving day with her family. Janie was born in 1942 in Lyons, New York, to parents Frank and Flora (DeJohn) Quagliata.

Janie was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 47 years, Jim, in 2012.  Their love was like no other and they were an inspiration to all they met throughout their lives.   Janie is survived by her children: Bray (Talene) Kelly, Megan (Jim) Anderson, and Mike (Beth) Kelly; by her beloved grandchildren: Quinn, Seamus, Reilly, Erinn, Grant, Scarlet, Paige, and Dempsey; by her brother and sisters: Bud (Gayle) Quagliata, Linda (Paul) Kenney, Barbara (Ken) Parker, Becky (Lee) Matteson, Lori (David) Kneut; by her brother-in-law Tim Kelly; and by many nieces and nephews.

Janie grew up in Newark, NY as the 2nd oldest of 6 siblings.  Janie excelled in academics and graduated from Newark High School in 1960.  She then attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY and graduated in 1963 as a Registered Nurse.   Her commitment to learning new areas of medicine along with Janie’s compassion for others, lead to a lifelong career in nursing.  This was a great benefit to her siblings, children, nieces, nephews and friends over the years that were always calling upon her for medical advice, which she gave happily.

Janie worked in many areas of health care beginning with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, and then in the nursing department at the Carrier Manufacturing Facility in Syracuse.  As Janie’s family began to grow, she worked as a night nurse at Stonehedge Nursing Home, so she could be home during the day with her kids.  She later became a workers compensation rehabilitation nurse, traveling to patient’s homes throughout upstate NY, to manage their care and rehab.  Janie loved this type of work because it gave her flexibility to accommodate her patient’s needs as well as her family’s.  Janie’s dedication to her patients went far above her medical skills as she continually purchased groceries and other supplies for her patients in need.  She would load up her car with bags of groceries, clothing for her patient’s children, anything that was needed, and never gave it a second thought.  She and Jim always had a very generous nature and were extremely giving to those around them.  Janie continued with her workers compensation nursing, even in her later years, after moving to Florida.  In addition to her love of nursing, Janie was an integral part of managing the office for Jim’s refrigeration companies, TRI and Floratech, in Syracuse, NY, and with her own interior decorating business, JKI.

Family and friends will remember Janie for her endless love and laughter.   Janie battled many obstacles in her life, survived breast cancer, and through it all, she always kept her sense of humor.  Janie’s love for her husband and entire family was incredible.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren – their hugs, kisses, texts, face-time calls, jokes, watching them play sports, hearing stories about their activities, hours of playing Yahtzee, cards, and cooking with them – they were all the greatest joy of her life.  Janie was also an avid reader, she loved vacations in the Outer Banks, picnic dinners at the beach, playing golf both with her family and in many golf leagues over the years, Syracuse University basketball, cookouts with the family, dinner parties, baking, a good banana split, and any time spent with her family.

A Memorial Mass for Janie will be held at St. Peter, the Apostle Catholic Church in Trinity, FL on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 10:30am. Interment of Jim and Janie’s ashes will follow the Mass at Trinity Memorial Garden.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, (800)608-3023.

I just learned about Janie’s sudden death from another former coworker in the Carrier Air Conditioning Company’s Medical Department in Syracuse (Lynda Hymers). I was the X-ray /Medical Assistant and worked with Janie from 1969 until she gave birth to her firstborn.
I saw Janie in Florida a few years ago while my husband Stan and I visited Lynda and Ross Hymers and we went to Mass together. She still had her wonderful smile and great sense of humor. We had a lovely visit.
We were very sad when we learned Jim had passed away… he was the perfect match for Janie and they were so devoted to each other and their children and grandchildren.
Now they are together again and hopefully in each others arms.
God Bless their family during this sad time, and May their wonderful memories sustain them.

Aunt Janie will forever hold a special place in my heart. From my earliest memories she was there to mend wounds and offer comfort. She was an excellent listener who asked follow up questions and taught us to look at things through other people’s lenses. Her most beguiling quality was her humor. Getting a smile from her warmed the heart and her wit was unmatched. The most lasting memories I will have of her are those of her as a loving and encouraging mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. It broke my heart when Uncle Jim was taken from her as they embodied the greatest of loves between spouses, and knowing she is reunited with him helps fill the hole in my heart at her loss. Sending love to all her kids, Bray, Talene, Megan, Jim, Michael, Beth, and her grandkids who were her greatest joys.

My sister, Janie, was an inspiration when growing up. She was a good student, popular, had a great personality, was lots of fun to be around. When she married Jim, her soul mate, it completed her. They were wonderful together and did everything together. Their “secret” for a good marriage was that they prayed together. She used to say, “a couple who prays together, stays together”. A great inspiration for many of us.
I will miss our weekly lunches, but know that your “Real Smile” is back in place now that you are with Jim in Heaven!!
Our thoughts and prayers to all of her children and grandchildren.
God Bless All of you.
Love,
Uncle Paul and Aunt Linda

One of my favorite memories of Aunt Janie was whenever we would play cards she almost always sat next to Uncle Jim, and, if Janie was out, whenever Jim would fold she would reach over and look at his cards. It might not sound like much, but I always thought that was sweet and funny. I will miss her greatly. It was always great getting to see her. We always caught up and she always wanted to know what was going on with me and was always kind, funny and gave great advice. Love and prayers to Bray, Talene, Megan, Jim, Mike, Beth and their kids.

Love,

Jeff & Mara
