John Schlager, 78, of Port Richey, Florida died June 11, 2026 in Hospice care at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL. He was raised in Long Beach, NY, the son of Dorothy and Jack Liddy and lived in Monroe, NY for 44 years. After serving with the Army in Vietnam, he joined the New York
City Police Department where he served for 31 years as a Detective in the Bomb Squad and Manhattan North Homicide.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie Curtis Schlagler, son Andrew Schlagler, daughter MaryKathryn Guerino, siblings Mary Anne Heffernan and Walter Liddy, eight grandchildren, two nephews, and his buddy, Banjo. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Danny, brother Jimmy and granddaughter Hannah Molly.
He will be buried at a later date near his Son, Danny, in New York.
