Juan Cruz of Tarpon Springs, FL passed away at the age of 93 on October 12, 2025.

He was born in Ybor City on February 19,1932 to Juan Cruz, Sr. and Irene Muñoz. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and was a Korean War Veteran. After serving in the military he graduated from the University of Tampa and went on to teach Spanish at Tarpon Springs High School for over 35 years. He was known as the “voice of the Spongers” football team as he was the announcer for all home games. He worked for the City of Tarpon Springs for 50 years retiring as the Public Services Director. He was also the manager of the 1963 Senior Little League All Star Florida State Champions Baseball team.

Juan was preceded in death by his wife Despina Cruz, and is survived by his wife Cynthia Cruz, his children Michael Cruz [Heidi], Michelle Cruz Bolger [Rick], Dawn Spataro [Nick], Shawn Maschino. Grandchildren, Jon Bolger, Erik Bolger, Ali MCreery, Michael Cruz, Briella Spataro, BraydenSpataro, Nico Maschino. Great grandchildren, Ethan, Aubree, Ava, Easton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Autism Society of
Florida.
