Kathleen (Kathy) Faye Bock, 78, died of natural causes on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at a New Port Richey, FL hospice center. Kathleen was born August 24, 1940 in LaMoure, ND, the last of seven children born to Russell and Alice Smeryage. The family moved to Bellwood, IL a year later. She graduated from Proviso High School in Bellwood, IL. She then attended Grant Hospital Nursing Program where she graduated with a Registered Nursing degree. She met Warren Bock while he was stationed in the Army in Chicago. They married on November 28, 1964, and moved to the family farm in Amidon, North Dakota. Kathy worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years at various medical facilities in Chicago, Bowman, Killdeer, Richardton and Dickinson, ND until her retirement in 2004. Kathy and Warren wintered in Florida for 20 years, finally establishing a permanent residence in Hudson, FL since 2015.
Kathy’s father died when she was 13 years old, and grew close to her older siblings growing up as a teenager in Chicago. In her younger years, she helped raise Marilyn’s daughter Marla. She also had a special relationship with her niece Georgia and her husband George Pottinger. She enjoyed visits with her family throughout the years on the farm and in retirement. Kathy enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, along with all the activities that come with farm and ranch life. Kathy had many pets over her lifetime. Kathy was a member of the Lebanon Lutheran Church in Amidon and Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in New England, ND. After retirement, Kathy and Warren enjoyed traveling to various destinations, including her brother Duane in FL and her sister Lois in New Port Richey, FL, which ultimately led to their winter home in nearby Hudson, FL. Kathy enjoyed the local restaurants, shopping, gaming, and nearby attractions.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Warren Bock; five children, Wade (Jill) Bock, New England, ND, Kevin (Rachel) Bock, Amidon, ND, Tim (Tana) Bock, Bismarck, ND, Michael (Kippie) Bock, Clearwater, KS, Karen (Jason) Gullickson, Rugby, ND; Eleven grand children, Emma, Grady, and Tucker Bock; Matthew Bock; Collin and Elyse Bock; Ellie, Ashlynn, and McKenna Bock; Reese and Autumn Gullickson.
Kathy was preceded in death by her Parents, Russell and Alice Smeryage, infant son, Bradley Charles Bock, six siblings, James Smeryage, Jack Smeryage, Lucille McClure, Duane Smeryage, Lois Leader, and Marilyn Haynes.
The funeral service will take place Friday, May 24, 2019 at 9:30 AM MST at Peace Lutheran Church in Dickinson, ND. Burial will follow later that afternoon at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
