A Life of Dedication and Family

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie C. Byrne, a cherished member of our community, who departed peacefully at her home. Marie’s presence enriched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to family and friends alike.

Born in New York City in 1939, Marie grew up surrounded by the warmth and support of a close-knit Italian family. This upbringing instilled in her the enduring values of dedication to family, a strong work ethic and determination to become the foundation of her life. In 1969, she moved to Florida, where she built a wonderful life filled with love, joy, laughter and many special memories.

Marie graduated from high school and embarked on her professional journey in the banking industry in the early 1970s, starting as a bank teller. Through her diligence and persistence, she steadily advanced her career, ultimately becoming a respected bank manager and vice president. Her leadership and integrity earned her the admiration of colleagues, clients and customers throughout her distinguished career.

Marie’s life was deeply enriched by her beloved family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald Byrne, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage founded on love and partnership. Marie is survived by her loving children, Deborah Reker and her husband Dan, and William Byrne and his wife Terrie. Marie’s legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren– Billy Byrne (Megan), Matt Reker (Brooke) and Amanda Byrne (Camille Pauchet), –each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. She also adored her two great-grandchildren. Marie’s enduring family ties include her sisters: Fran Nodell (Gene), Josephine Culotta, Jeannette Goldman (Pat Walsh), her late sister Rosalie Stewart, and her brother Sal Culotta (Harriet) and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her Italian heritage and the closeness of her family were central to her identity. Marie’s values and spirit live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Renowned for her exceptional culinary talents, Marie brought joy to family and friends with her traditional Italian recipes, including her signature baked spaghetti, lasagna, and flavorful seafood sauce, all lovingly prepared and shared at gatherings.

She especially loved hosting the annual summer barbecue, a treasured family tradition filled with laughter, storytelling, and delicious food that brought loved ones together.

Marie’s passion for sports began in her twenties as she became an enthusiastic baseball fan. In her mid-thirties, she also developed a deep appreciation for football. Marie and Donald were dedicated supporters of the Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers, often attending games as season ticket holders in their younger years. She took great pleasure in cheering for her favorite teams and shared her enthusiasm for sports with her family, especially while supporting her grandchildren from the sidelines.

Marie C. Byrne will be fondly remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her impressive career in banking, her love of sports, her extraordinary culinary skills, and her resilient spirit. Her kindness, wisdom, and warmth touched everyone she met. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, in honor of her generous and compassionate spirit.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, February 22nd, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Dobie’s Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs. A church service will be held the following day, Monday, February 23rd, 1:00 p.m… at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs.
