May 30, 1960~November 09, 2025

Nancy Sosnicki-Uelmen, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025 after a brief, yet tenacious fight with cancer. Nancy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and spirited engagement with the world.

She was born to Dolores and Joseph Sosnicki in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on May 30, 1960. Nancy was raised in a home with her parents, older brother David, Aunt Barbara, and cousin Maria. While it was close quarters, it was a home full of love; they all were there to greet Nancy when she ascended to heaven.
Raised Catholic, Nancy spent her formative years at St. Pius parochial and Divine Savior Holy Angels High School. There, she formed lifelong friendships and built a foundation for a faith that would only deepen with time. Nancy graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1984 with a degree in political science.
During college, Nancy was introduced to Robert Uelmen through her best friend Cathy. After five years of dating, on February 1, 1986, they married at St. Pius Catholic Church in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. For 39 years, their marriage was one of true partnership, creating a home that was a constant source of warmth and welcoming hospitality. Together, they raised three children: Jessica, Mollie, and Matthew, in whom she instilled a strong faith, independence, and appreciation for sarcasm.
While her children were small, Nancy was devoted to being in the home full-time to support them. Nothing was more important to her than being there when they came home from school, whether they were sharing successes, struggles, or silliness. She made every birthday and holiday magical, and even stepped up as Girl Scout Troop leader for both of her daughters. Leveraging her Political Science degree, she fiercely advocated for children throughout the state, serving as President or board member for every school’s PTA and SAC her kids attended, as well as serving as Vice President of Advocacy for the Pinellas County Council Parent Teacher Association. She lobbied many legislators, and never let her family underestimate the power of the people.
As her children grew older, Nancy resumed her own search for self. Always wanting to help others, she became a Certified Empowerment Life Coach and Energy Leadership Coach through iPEC and owned her own coaching practice focused on life purpose and parenting. She also received her K-6 teaching certificate, and taught reading to students reading below grade level for over 20 years in Pinellas County schools, retiring in 2022.
Ever faithful, Nancy was heavily involved in her parish of 34 years, St. Ignatius of Antioch in Tarpon Springs. She volunteered with the Upper Pinellas Pregnancy Center for over 20 years, was a praying member of the Seven Sisters Apostolate, devoted practitioner of Lectio Divina, and member of the Women of the Well. Nancy felt the call to become a spiritual director, for which she attended the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute, graduating in 2019. Following that, she enrolled in Audire, graduating in 2025. It was through these programs that she grew closest with Christ, who was her greatest comfort in her final months.
Nancy treasured her time with her friends, and enjoyed attending shows at the Straz, playing bunco and mahjong, and participating in book club. She liked to pick books that would make the group think, and loved sharing recommendations. Nancy also held a love for travel, visiting family across the US and experiencing new cultures across the globe.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her children, Jessica, Mollie, and Matthew; their spouses Steven, Hunter, and Jordan; her cherished grandchildren, Siena, Samantha, RJ, Emeryk, Nora, Roen, and Jaime; the children of her cousin and sister of the heart, Sara and Jonathan; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to know her.
Her kindness, wit, quirkiness, and deep capacity for love will be profoundly missed by all who were lucky to know her. Though our hearts ache with loss, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit remains a vibrant part of the lives she touched.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at Dobies Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm. A funeral mass will follow on November 19 at 11am at St. Ignatius of Antioch in Tarpon Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Children’s Movement of Florida.

Rob I’m so sorry for your loss. Nancy’s life sounded a lot like your Aunt Diane’s, a blend of politics and religious leadership. May your family be together to bring you comfort.

I met Nancy over 20 years ago through her daughter Jessica, who became a dear friend and confidante. Even in the moments we shared, it was clear how deeply she loved and guided her family. Her absence leaves a deep void, and I hope her family and friends find comfort in the lasting inspiration of her presence.

I met Nancy when our daughters attended Cypress Woods together. Jessica and Mel became great friends and so did Nancy and I. We both served on PTA and SAC for many years. Nancy and I remained good friends and eventually ended up back at Cypress Woods working together! I loved Nancy’s wonderful personality… full of kindness, humor, dedication, family, and deep love for our Lord and Savior. My deepest sympathy and love to her wonderful family. 💜

We were so sad to hear of Nancy’s death. We had hoped and prayed aggressive treatment would have worked. We will always remember the wonderful times we had together in Wisconsin, Mississippi and Florida. We are comforted knowing Nancy had a strong faith and know we will see her again. God bless you all.

We were saddened to hear of the loss of such an incredible mother, wife, and human. Her obituary is likely a glimpse of a full-life lived, and her active engagement across her family, her community, and our society shows the incredible energy, passion, and love she had for everyone around us. She is survived by incredible children, as well as strong memories with family and friends; and, through those, her spirit will forever live.

I am so very saddened to hear about Nancy’s passing. I have known her since my son Joel was in first grade and we were on the PTA board together. I have since moved back to Rhode Island so I am not able to attend her service. She was a special person and I enjoyed our friendship. My heart goes out to the entire family.
