Robert James Walsh (Bobby) passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at his home in Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on February 27, 1941, he was raised on Hyland Avenue and remained a proud lifelong member of St. Aloysius Parish. He attended St. Aloysius grammar school and high school before continuing his education at St. Peter’s College.
On December 15, 1962, Robert married Eileen D. Gorman of Hoboken, New Jersey. Together for 63 years, they built a strong and devoted life, raising five children and creating a close-knit family that continues to grow through generations.
Robert dedicated 28 years of his professional life to IBM before pursuing his entrepreneurial ambitions. He owned and operated Walsh’s Pub in West Milford, New Jersey, where he became a familiar and welcoming presence in the community while providing opportunities for many local residents. In 1993, he also purchased and operated the New York Bagel Authority in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
He and Eileen raised their family in West Milford, where Robert was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church. He was deeply involved in the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Francis Koch Council, and proudly served as Grand Knight for four years. A devoted father, he spent many years coaching softball for his daughters, creating lasting memories both on and off the field.
In 2004, Robert retired to Florida, where he enjoyed a well earned retirement. He was a lifelong New York Jets fan and especially cherished time spent with his family at the Jersey Shore in Avon by the Sea…moments he treasured most.
Robert loved his country and took great pride in his beliefs. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. His legacy is one of love, loyalty, and community.
Robert is survived by his children: Robert (Mary) of Avon by the Sea, NJ, Danny of New Brunswick, NJ, Kerry (John) of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Brian (Julie) of New Providence, NJ, and Meg (Robert) of Palm Harbor, FL. He was a proud grandfather to Mackenzie (Victor), Robbie (Maddy), James Patrick, Jack, John (Lauren), Logan, Nora, and Brianne. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Brynn and Kaylee, who brought him great joy.
