Gehrin, Samuel C., Jr., born April 22, 1943 and passed October 23, 2018, Son, Brother, Husband, Uncle, Sailor, Captain, Friend and Teller of Great Tales and sea stories. Man of the World and Man of the Sea departed from us and sailed to the next life. Also known as: The Fun Seeker, The Grand Pooh Ba, Captain Who Be You, and Captain Sam who will be missed globally and by his loving family and friends.

Sam went to sea early and built, rebuilt (Shalom), bought and sold boats starting at Ross Yacht Clearwater. He sailed the SORC, had a 45’ Morgan and eventually had his own Tall Ship “The Brig Unicorn”. He Captained this square rigger in the Great Tall Ship Gathering and Ship Parade on the east coast for the 1976 American Bicentennial.

He moved on to Ocean Merchant Marine service working up through assignments to be Unlimited Oceans Captain with an oil-rig expertise, terminating his sailing carrier as Port Captain of Port Harcourt for the Nigerian West African oil patch.
After a long battle with Malaria he left the Seas returning to Tampa Bay. He married Patricia Tharin, 21 years ago and resided in Dunedin, Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his brother Richard's family, Susan, The Reverend Adrien Dawson of Fredrick Md, Eric Stuart Gehring of Hong Kong and Mason Gehring of Dunedin. He is a Great Uncle to Cameron, Ellen, Logan and Lyra.

Sam who loved to make you laugh by telling you a great story will be Celebrated at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Dunedin Florida, November 10th at 10:00am, with internment in Dunedin Cemetery.

Sam was a very good friend and helped us set up a contact spot for BNs to be able to find crew to help with deliveries – RIP Sam
