Thomas “Tom” George Skiratko, age 78, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Trinity, Florida.

Tom was born on January 21, 1947, in New York to George Skiratko and Mary Yarema. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to South Plainfield, New Jersey, where Tom later graduated from South Plainfield High School. He went on to attend Western Kentucky University, earning his degree before proudly enlisting in the United States Navy. Tom served with honor for seven years aboard the USS Long Beach.

Following his military service, Tom settled in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he dedicated his life to education. Throughout his career, he served in various impactful roles, including teacher, coach, administrator, and ultimately, Assistant Superintendent. He was known for his passion for learning and commitment to his students and colleagues.

A proud alumnus of Western Kentucky University, Tom was also an avid golfer and a member of Heritage Springs in Trinity. Even in retirement, he remained deeply engaged in his community. Since 2010, he served on the Pennies for Pasco Schools oversight committee and was the current chairman of the committee at the time of his passing.

Tom will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the communities he faithfully served. He is survived by his brother John Skiratko and sister-in-law Karen, and his sister Barbara Novak and brother-in-law Steve. He is also survived by his nieces, Stacy Collins and Suzie Skiratko; nephews, Steven Novak III (and Justine), and Tom Novak (and Ashley); as well as his beloved great-nieces and nephews: Teryn Collins, Steven Novak IV, Charles Novak, and Brielle Novak.

Tom will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on October 24th at 1pm.  The family will be holding a memorial reception  at Heritage Springs Clubhouse located at 11345 Robert Trent Jones Pkwy, Trinity, FL. 34655 on October 25th at 1pm.

On behalf of the Penny for Pasco School Oversight Committee, we express our sincere condolences to the family. We are very thankful for Tom’s service on this committee for the last 15 years and we always appreciated his insight and questions. We are grateful for Tom’s love for education and most importantly, his friendship.
