Vance P. Smith Sr.
Passed on July 18, 2021 at his home in Tarpon Springs.
Vance is remembered in love by his son, Vance Pascal Jr. and daughter Joan Smith-Moffett born to him and his wife Dorothy A. Sykes, who he was married to from 1951 to her death in 1989.
He was married to Barbara Ewing from 1992 until her death in 2009.
Vance was born Sep. 18, 1928, in Virginia, and was raised in northeastern Oklahoma with his 5 siblings.
Vance graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University,1950, from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville in 1960, and from the University of Arizona,1968.
Vance was a Safety Engineer, then Army veteran 1953-1955.
He was an ordained minister, church pastor and VA Chaplain.
He was a grants and project writer.
He was a counselor, supervisor, and program evaluator for Dept. of Rehabilitation and Alcohol and Drug Programs for the State of California.
He retired from the State of California in 1993.
After retiring he remained very active in church. He served as chaplain for his Masonic Lodge and other organizations. He realized a lifelong dream with a trip to Israel and made numerous trips abroad, including traveling and hosting with Friendship Force International.
In later years he loved to sing (mostly in church), converse with others, and take frequent walks in the many local parks and the neighborhood where he lived.
Vance was a kind man and helping others was a big part of his life.

To the family of our dear neighbor, Mr. Smith. We just learned of his passing. We always enjoyed seeing him on his walks, most recently with his son. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
