Platzer, William “Bill” Ferdinand, 83, of Lucasville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 in Hudson, Florida. He was born June 18, 1934 in Keystone, West Virginia, a son of the late William Otho and Hazel Thompson Platzer.

Bill was a 1952 Otway High School graduate, received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Rio Grande College, and his Masters in Administration from Xavier Unversity. He spent his career as an educator in Scioto County; first as a teacher, then retiring as Superintendent of Scioto County Schools. He especially loved all his students that he taught first at Morgan Elementary School, then at Rarden and Union Schools.

He loved traveling, golf and spending time with his family. He was a devoted attendee of Pleasant Valley Community of Christ and Tarpon Springs Community of Christ in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Crabtree Platzer, whom he married July 5, 1952 in McDermott, Ohio; his daughter, Dawn Lee (Jim) Stevenson of Groveport, Ohio; his son, William “Billy” (Kim) Platzer of Lucasville, Ohio; four granddaughters whom he loved very much, Mindy (Jeremy) Platzer, Kelly (Ben) Stevenson, Ann (Asa) Jewett and Gretchen (Henk) Pienaar; five great grandchildren whom he treasured, Will Bentley, Johann Pienaar, Jack Jewett, Marius Pienaar and Sienna Pienaar; one brother, Jerry (Maria) Platzer of Lucasville, Ohio; and three sisters, Teresa (Everett) Gillette of Lucasville, Ohio, Linda (Len) Yates of The Villages, Florida and Sharon (Greg) Malone of Lucasville, Ohio.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Community of Christ with Daron Lilly and Phil Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call 5 to 8 pm Friday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville, Ohio and an hour before the funeral Saturday at the church.
